Unlike other major professional sports leagues, there is no parity in baseball. Teams in major TV markets have a distinct advantage because in baseball, each team can televise the games locally and keep all the profits for themselves. So it stands to reason that ad revenues are greater in places like New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Boston, and Philadelphia than in places like Pittsburgh, Kansas City, St. Petersburg, and Houston.
This is why the Yankees make the playoffs every single year and the Royals never do. So why is this important to the sports bettor? Well, the obvious reason is if you are betting on futures, such as a preseason bet on a team to win the World Series, this is useful information.
However, don’t get trapped into thinking the small market teams are not who you want to bet on. The trick is to pick the right one. For instance, in 2012, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Washington, and Oakland are great teams to bet on every day, whereas, the Astros, Mariners, Rays, Marlins, And Royals would have you in the hole.
And the Yankees, White Sox and Dodgers would have you in good shape, but the Cubs, Angels, and Red Sox would not.
Make sure you read our reviews on each team and also keep up with all of their stats, game recaps, stats and streaks.
