Calvin Johnson Says ‘No Doubt’ He’s Got Some Good Years Left

Calvin Johnson is a legitimate superstar in the NFL. The veteran wide receiver is widely regarded as the best player in the league at his position and that stance may change over the next couple of seasons.

Although Johnson is as talented as they come at the wide receiver position, the perennial Pro Bowler isn’t getting any younger with the star wideout set to turn 30 in September. That being said, the question of how many years he has left playing at a high level is started to get asked.

Johnson said the following about his age and how much gas he may have left in the tank for the Detroit Lions, via Carlos Monarrez of the Detroit Free Press:

“I’m just playing my game,” he said. “Doing what I set out to do.”

The assertion the eight-year veteran makes himself is that two months from his 30th birthday he still has big seasons left.

“No doubt,” he said. “What did I miss, four, almost five games last year? Still came up with just over 1,000 (yards). I still have some (good years) left.”

Johnson may be downplaying the fact that he’s getting older, but the clock is ticking for the Lions. Matthew Stafford and Johnson were once considered the best young duo in the league. Many believed it may have been only matter of time for this team to go the distance or at least be considered among the elite in the NFL.

Unfortunately, the results have stayed the same with the Green Bay Packers continuing to be the cream of the crop in the NFC North and Detroit always trying to catch up. It remains to be se seen whether the Lions can live up to expectations, but the window of opportunity is closing quickly with no telling how much longer this core can stick together without the results.
