Cowboys WR Dez Bryant Being Sued For Trashing House

Every now and again we get a glimpse into the world of the rich and famous and are reminded that they can be every bit as disgusting as the rest of us plebs. Like, for instance, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant, who is reportedly being sued for damage done to a rental home.

The landlord Royce West, a Texas state senator, is seeking between $100,000 and $200,000 from Bryant for his “negligent and abusive” treatment of the 6,400 square foot mansion. Bryant paid nearly $5,000 a month in rent from September 2013 until vacating the property in January 2016.

Per the Dallas News:

West discovered the 6,400-square-foot home “littered with trash and feces, missing blinds and shutters, with cracked windows and blackened carpeting” after Bryant moved out in January, and his lawyers say Bryant refuses to accept responsibility for the damage. …

West encountered “irreparable damage to carpeting, flooring, windows, shutters, and blinds; the presence of animal feces, trash, debris, and personal property inside the residence; and distinct and pervasive odors throughout” during the walk-through, the lawsuit says.

Bryant’s lease prohibited pets, which probably isn’t going to help him in court, since it seems much of the $60,000 of damage was done by animals run amok. West is seeking the additional damages because he claims the costly and time-consuming repairs have prevented him from renting the house out since Bryant left.

Prior to filing suit, West attempted to settle the damages with Bryant personally in April, but received no response. When he reached out in May, West alleges he “was met with a letter from a representative from Bryant, saying that the Cowboys star would sue West if he continued to seek payment.”

Well, that’s one way to handle things. Dez may have soft hands on the field, but he’s not known for a delicate touch off the field.
