Deshaun Watson to undergo season-ending surgery to repair torn ACL

The Houston Texans were dealt a devastating blow on Thursday, when quarterback Deshaun Watson suffered a torn ACL during practice.

The rookie sensation went down with a non-contact injury and it didn’t look good from the start.

An MRI on the knee confirmed the full extent of the injury. Watson is set to undergo season-ending surgery, putting an early end to what had been a remarkable start to his NFL career.

With Watson behind center, the Texans climbed to the top of the NFL in scoring with a league-best 30.7 points per game.

They’ve scored at least 30 points per game in each of the last five weeks, with the rookie posting 16 passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown over a four-game span in October.

Watson was just named the AFC Offensive Player of the Month for October and the AFC Rookie of the Month. His performance of late made him the clear frontrunner for NFL Rookie of the Year honors too.

Now the 3-4 Texans have no choice but to start Tom Savage, who was benched midway through the first game of the season after a truly abysmal performance.

They’ve also signed journeyman nobody Matt McGloin, who played under Bill O’Brien at Penn State.
