Despite Super Bowl LII Loss, Patriots Early Favorites for Super Bowl LIII

On Sunday, the New England Patriots were beaten by the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII by the score of 41-33. That did not stop sportsbooks from believing the Patriots are favorites to win the SuperBowl next year.

Early odds were released following the outcome of Sunday’s game and New England is atop the leaderboard with odds of 9 to 2 to win the Lombardi Trophy in SuperBowl LIII.

After winning last year’s SuperBowl the Patriots were made early favorites to win Super Bowl LII at 5 to 1. They remained the favorites nearly all of the regular season and playoffs.

The Pittsburgh Steelers (8 to 1) are the only other AFC team with single-digit odds for next year’s SuperBowl.

Philadelphia with its first SuperBowl victory in hand has the best odds in the NFC to win Super Bowl LII at 6 to 1. NFC teams following the Eagles are the Vikings and Packers at 12 to 1, Saints at 16 to 1. The Falcons come in at 18 to 1.

The San Francisco 49ers had a poor season last year and were 300 to 1 to win Super Bowl LII. In early odds for Super Bowl LIII they have the eighth-best odds at 20 to 1.

A big storyline starting the offseason is where Kirk Cousins the Washington Redskins quarterback will end up playing with Alex Smith headed to Washington from the Kansas City Chiefs. The team that lands Cousins could have their futures’ odds shifted higher.

The biggest longshots for SuperBowl LIII all sit at 100 to 1. They include the Cleveland Browns, Chicago Bears and New York Jets.

The handle for sportsbooks and casinos in Nevada for Super Bowl LI last year was a record setting $138.4 million. The handle for Super Bowl LII is also expected to surpass that and set a new all-time record.

Atlanta will host Super Bowl LIII at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on February 3, 2019.
