Giancarlo Stanton out 4-6 weeks with broken hand
One of the few bright spots for the Miami Marlins this season has been the play of slugger Giancarlo Stanton. But bad news struck Saturday morning:

The Marlins later announced that Stanton will miss four-to-six weeks with a broken hamate bone in his left hand, and he’s been placed on the DL and will require surgery. There’s supposedly no ligament damage in the hand, and the hope is he can return closer to the four-week mark than the six-week mark.

Stanton hurt the hand while swinging in the sixth inning of Friday night’s 7-1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. He said the bat “dug” into his hand a bit, and he was noticeably in pain when he came to the plate again in the ninth inning. The 25-year-old got the hand checked out and the break was revealed.
The Marlins have lost five games in a row and an awful 30-45 record, but Stanton has been a monster the entire season. He leads the majors with 27 home runs and 67 RBI, and while he’s hitting “just” .265 with 96 strikeouts, he’s walked 34 times and obviously makes up for those K’s with the power.
Despite Stanton’s prowess, the Marlins rank near the bottom of the league in runs scored, and his absence certainly isn’t going to help that. Things are going bad enough in Miami, and now it’s only going to be worse with this injury to the star player. Hopefully Stanton will make a speedy recovery and be back to hitting moonshots in no time.
