Giants Host Lions on Monday Night Football

Week 2 of the NFL regular season concludes with Monday Night Football when the Detroit Lions visit the New York Giants in an NFC showdown. The current line has New York favored by 3 points with the over/under point total on 42.

Entering the game, Detroit on the season is 1-0 straight up and against the spread, while New York is 0-1 SU and ATS. This will be the first away game for the Lions and first home game for the Giants.

Odell Beckham Jr. the talented wide receiver for the New York Giants could play Week 2 after missing the first game of the season against Dallas with an injured ankle. The Giants star did go through limited workouts Friday.

The Giants lost their opener to Dallas 19-3 as the Cowboys defense kept Giants quarterback Eli Manning from tossing any touchdown passes or the running game from generating any offense.

Detroit signal caller Matthew Stafford suffered a pick-six early in the opening game of the season but went on to throw for 292 yards with four touchdowns in the Lions opening week victory over Arizona 35-23.

Lions wide receiver Golden Tate led the team with 10 receptions and 107 receiving yards last week. Kenny Golladay caught two fourth quarter touchdown passes for the Lions.

Theo Riddick caught six passes out of the backfield and was part of Detroit’s run by committee that included Dwayne Washington and Ameer Abdullah.

The Giants must improve their running game. Paul Perkins rushed for 16 of New York’s 35 yards on the ground against Dallas. Shane Vereen did not run the ball against Dallas but did catch nine passes out of the backfield.

Sterling Shepard led wide receivers for New York in Week 1 in receptions with seven and last season caught a touchdown in the Giants 17-6 win over the Lions.

Giants defensive end Olivier Vernon recorded a quarterback sack against Dallas and has 8.5 over his past 10 games.

Detroit tight end Eric Ebron caught just two passes in Week 1 and four last season against the Giants.

Detroit is 1-5 ATS in its last 6 games played.

New York is 5-1 ATS in its last 6 games played at home.

Prediction: The Giants are coming off a poor performance against Dallas, but should bounce back especially of Beckham Jr. can play. Lean toward the Giants here.
