Indianapolis Colts Suffer Major Blow Losing QB Andrew Luck For 2-6 Weeks

It has been a rough season for the Indianapolis Colts. Andrew Luck and company came into this season after reaching the AFC Championship Game in 2014 and seemingly on the verge of becoming a perennial Super Bowl title contender.

Unfortunately, at the halfway point in the 2015 NFL season, the Colts are sitting with a 4-5 record and now will be without their star quarterback for as much as two to six weeks, according to Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com.

The Indianapolis Colts announced Tuesday that Luck will miss 2-6 weeks with a lacerated kidney and a partial tear of an abdominal muscle. The team says the injuries will not require surgery and a full recovery is expected.

In seven games this season, Luck has thrown for 1,881 yards, 15 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Luck missed two games earlier in the season, but the Colts were able to come out on top with veteran Matt Hasselbeck under center.

With Luck now on the shelf, Indianapolis will turn to Hasselbeck once again to shoulder the load at the quarterback position moving forward. Although the Colts are currently sporting a losing record at 4-5, Indianapolis remains in first place in arguably the worst division in the NFL.

It isn’t beyond the realm of possibility that the Colts still make it into the NFL playoffs with losing record. The Houston Texans are the only real threat in the AFC South with J.J. Watt and company sitting in second place with a 3-5 record.

The Colts will be head into a much-needed bye week in Week 10. If Luck can get back on the field in three weeks time, the three-time Pro Bowler may only miss one game with the injuries he sustained. Although that’s the best case scenario, the fact that there’s a four-week gap in the team’s estimation, there’s no telling when he’ll return.
