Kansas Looks to Sweep Season Series with Texas

Big 12 action on Monday night heads to the Lone Star State when the No. 2 ranked Kansas Jayhawks visit the No. 25 ranked Texas Longhorns. The current line has Kansas favored by 1.5 points with the over/under point total at 141.

Kansas on the season has an overall record of 25-4 straight up and 18-9 against the spread. On the road, the Jayhawks are 6-3 SU and ATS.

Texas on the season has an overall record of 19-10 SU and 15-13 ATS. At home, the Longhorns are 14-2 SU and 8-7 ATS.

Kansas has already clinched a share of the regular season Big 12 title for the 12th consecutive season. With its 67-58 victory over Texas Tech on Saturday, Kansas clinched the conference tie and is only one title behind UCLA’s record 13 consecutive in the Pac-10 between 1967 and 1979.

The Jayhawks have won 9 straight games but will have a short turnaround with only one full day between games and will be playing on the road. Kansas will face a Texas team that has won three of its last four including Saturday’s 76-63 win over the No. 4 ranked Oklahoma Sooners.

Texas lost 76-67 at Kansas earlier this season on January 23. The Longhorns are 10-6 in Big 12 play this season, while Kansas is 13-3.

Kansas has significant depth this season, which was on full display Saturday versus Tech. Sophomore Svi Mykhailuk scored 17 points off the bench. The guard has been a streaky shooter all season and was 5-for-5 from 3-point territory.

Shaka Smart the first-year Longhorns coach needs just one win to start his career with 20 wins at Texas. Isaiah Taylor, the Longhorn’s court general at point guard scored 18 points against Oklahoma. He leads Texas in both scoring as well as assists this season.

Prince Ibeh was big up front for Texas, as he blocked seven Sooners shots. He leads the team with 55 blocks on the season.

Kansas is 9-1 over its last 10 meeting with Texas and leads the head-to-head series overall 26-8.

Texas guard Javan Felix is averaging 11 points per game this season and has scored 10 points or more in four of his past five games.

Prediction: Texas is on a roll after Saturday’s win over Oklahoma, while Kansas may have a slight let down after clinching a tie for the Big 12 tie and a likely No. 1 ranking on Monday. Lean toward Texas in this one.
