LeBron James named 2018 NBA All-Star MVP

LeBron James is All Star MVP for the third time after Sunday when Team LeBron beat Team Stephen 148 – 145.

He finished the 2018 NBA All Star game with 29 points, ten rebounds and 8 assists. The 33 year old LeBron James contributed to several key plays in a comeback victory.

Team Stephen was ahead by 13 with 6 minutes remaining, before a LeBron-Kyrie combo sparked Team LeBron into life.

LeBron James tied the game at 144-144 with 1:30 remaining with a step-back three pointer over Joel Embiid. With 30 seconds left, Kyrie Irving fed James for a go-ahead layup to make it 146-144.

NBA fans were treated to a more competitive All Star game than they have seen in recent years. LeBron James praised commissioner Adam Silver for implementing the new format:

“The great thing about our commissioner [Adam Silver], he’s absolutely OK with trying something new, to change the format, and it definitely worked out for everybody. It worked out not only for the players, not only for the league, but for our fans, for everybody.”

At 33, James was the oldest player in the game. It had been 10 years since he was last named All Star MVP, after winning with the Eastern Conference in New Orleans in 2008. When asked if he had something to prove, he said only to himself.

“Listen, I respect the younger guys, and I love them,” James said. “They’re the next crew, for sure. They’ve got to keep this thing going. What I take pride in is taking care of my body. … Making sure I’m available every night and continue to get better and better. You don’t really take it as, ‘OK, I need to show him that I’m still able to do this. I need to continue to show myself,’ you know, because every night I step on the floor, I have to lead my guys or prove to myself that I’m still able to play at a high level. I feel great.”
