Cavs Superstar LeBron James Won’t Waive No-Trade Clause Amid Kyrie Irving Trade Rumors

The Cleveland Cavaliers have quickly gone from the cream of the crop in the Eastern Conference to arguably one of the most dysfunctional franchises in the NBA over the last few weeks. Once the team missed out on opportunities to land Jimmy Butler or Paul George in trades, the Cavs have headed into a downward spiral with the departure of general manager David Griffin as well as the recent trade demand by superstar Kyrie Irving.

Irving surprised everyone in the league when he demanded the Cavs trade him. No one saw it coming, including fellow superstar LeBron James. Although Irving wants out and many have speculation LeBron could be the next to ask for a trade, James won’t be waiving his no-trade clause, according to ESPN’s Chris Haynes:

No matter the reconstruction of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ roster, no matter the potential for heightened inner turmoil, no matter the win-loss record, and with or without Kyrie Irving, LeBron James will not waive his no-trade clause for any teams at any point during the 2017-18 season, league sources tell ESPN.

Although LeBron may be maintaining a desire to stay with the Cavs, the three-time NBA champion may very well change his tune come February. There’s no telling how the Irving saga will pan out in Cleveland or if the team will be a title contender once the NBA trade deadline rolls around.

The Cavs front office may be the ones to push for LeBron to be traded with fear of him leaving for nothing in return next summer. The Los Angeles Lakers appear to be a serious threat to lure him away from his hometown of Cleveland making this situation that much more difficult for the Cavs.
