Maverick Carter addresses rumors of LeBron James potentially signing with the Lakers

Superstar LeBron James of Cleveland Cavaliers is still very much considered to be the best player in the NBA. The three-time NBA champion is still going strong and will have the opportunity to test free agency next summer with the Los Angeles Lakers being a potential destination.

At this point, all signs point to LeBron leaving Cleveland and Los Angeles being the favorite to sign him. LeBron’s manager, Maverick Carter, recently addressed these Lakers rumors and said the following about the potential of it happening next year on The Rich Eisen Show, transcription via Dan Feldman of Pro Basketball Talk.

“These days, it doesn’t matter anymore. Think about it now. The Lakers and the Knicks have been bad – the Knicks for a very long time the Lakers for, I don’t know, since Kobe kind of aged out of being the best player or one of the best players in the league. And basketball is growing and doing as great as ever with teams in Oklahoma City, in Cleveland. These days, it doesn’t matter, because you can be known and be a star from anywhere – anywhere in the world. So, it doesn’t actually matter. I mean, could he sell a few more sneakers if he was in a gigantic market like Boston or Chicago or New York or L.A.? Maybe. But not as much as if he wins. What matters the most is if he wins. When you win, as an athlete, that matters the most.”

If winning is priority number one for LeBron in free agency, the Lakers may be a step back for the future Hall of Famer. Los Angeles does appear to be a team on the rise with Lonzo Ball leading the way along with Brandon Ingram and Kyle Kuzma, but there’s no telling when or if this team would be in contention with the addition of James.

It’ll be interesting to see if LeBron ultimately does decide to leave Cleveland and if Los Angeles is indeed a potential destination for the perennial All-Star.
