NBA Rumors: Knicks ‘Committed’ To Trading Carmelo Anthony

USA Today

The New York Knicks appear ready to move on from superstar Carmelo Anthony once and for all. The storied NBA franchise explored trading Anthony before the NBA trade deadline to no avail, but talks will spark up once again this summer.

According to Ian Begley of ESPN, the Knicks are determined to move Anthony during the NBA offseason:

The Knicks shopped Anthony in trade talks before the deadline and, barring an unforeseen change of course, remain committed to moving Anthony in the offseason, per sources.

Anthony, who has a no-trade clause in his contract with the Knicks, will still have a control in terms of where he goes in any deal made by New York. This could make things difficult for Phil Jackson and company, but after this season is over, more intriguing opportunities may arise for Anthony.

The most likely destination for Carmelo at this point appears to be landing with the Los Angeles Clippers. Doc Rivers’ squad has made no progress over the last few years and all signs point to the same result in the playoffs this time around.

The team may finally decide it is time to shake things up and seek a deal to bring in Anthony to provide another veteran star to help compete in a highly competitive Western Conference. The Clippers were considered a threat to the Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs at one point, but now seem to be a second-rate team in the West and in desperate need of some help that Anthony could bring if acquired by Los Angeles.

Another option for Anthony could be with the Cleveland Cavaliers. LeBron James and company might also be looking for more help if unable to repeat as NBA champions this season. Anthony is an option for Cleveland.
