NBA Rumors: Knicks Express Interest In Coach Frank Vogel

The coaching search continues for the New York Knicks with the storied NBA franchise yet to make a decision on whether they’ll remove Kurt Rambis interim tag or hire a new head coach. Although team president Phil Jackson is reportedly on vacation, the rumors continue to swirl about the team’s intentions regarding the coaching search.

According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, the Knicks have shown interest in former Indiana Pacers head coach Frank Vogel:

The Knicks have made contact with the agent for Frank Vogel but have not yet requested an interview, according to a source close to the former Pacers coach.

Apparently, the contact made between the Knicks and Vogel was an exploratory nature with Phil Jackson mulling whether to interview the free-agent head coach. New York was merely gauging interest from Vogel, via Berman:

According to the source, Knicks GM Steve Mills has done his due diligence in contacting Vogel’s reps. He expressed that Phil Jackson has not made a decision on how to proceed. The key to the exploratory phone call was finding out whether Vogel would have interest in the job, and it seems he does.

With Vogel now available on the open market, the coaching search for the Knicks gets a bit more intriguing. New York failed to make strides in the pursuit of a new head coach with Tom Thibodeau, Scott Brooks, and Luke Walton available. All three of those names are now off the table, but Vogel is an option the team must consider as he is arguably the best available.
