NBA Rumors: Knicks, Rockets Working On Carmelo Anthony Trade

Anthony Gruppuso-USA TODAY Sports

The Carmelo Anthony era of the New York Knicks appears to be coming to an end. The storied NBA franchise seems to be on the verge of finally making a trade to send Anthony elsewhere with the Houston Rockets being his most likely destination.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Knicks and Rockets are currently working toward a deal that could end up being a four-team trade:

The New York Knicks and Houston Rockets have expanded the scope of a possible Carmelo Anthony trade to include four-team scenarios, league sources told ESPN.

The veteran forward currently controls his fate. Anthony has a no-trade clause in his contract with the Knicks meaning he can veto any trade he doesn’t agree with.

Ironically enough, Anthony seems open to a trade to the Rockets which would have him joining forces with Mike D’Antoni once again. Anthony and D’Antoni didn’t exactly see eye-to-eye in New York, but he appears ready to put differences aside to join a team that could very well contend for a title next season.

Anthony would join forces with fellow superstars Chris Paul and James Harden in Houston. The superstar trio might be enough to compete with the likes of the defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference.

Last season, the Rockets played a high-octane style of offense which fit perfectly for Houston. D’Antoni earned NBA Coach of the Year honors while Harden became a legitimate NBA MVP candidate as he drove opposing defenses crazy on a nightly basis.

There’s no telling how the potential pairing of these three stars will work in Houston, but the Rockets are willing to take the chance that it might be what is needed to compete.
