Ricky Rubio Wants His ‘Opinion’ Heard Within The Timberwolves Organization

Veteran point guard Ricky Rubio has been on shaky ground with the Minnesota Timberwolves for the past couple of years. Rubio’s name has been mentioned in trade rumors on a seemingly annual basis with the consensus being that the team is ready to part ways with the Spanish product.

Rubio, however, has never publicly wanted out and has continued to remain dedicated to the team despite the endless speculation surrounding his future. Although Rubio appears to be all-in with the Timberwolves, he wants more of a say in things that impact the team moving forward, as he told Eurohoops:

“Yes, I would like my opinion to have more weight on things that affect the team. And I think that is linked to the performance on the court. My second leg of the season gave me more power. And I want things to go well,” Rubio said.

At this point, there’s no telling what the future holds for Rubio concerning whether his future will be with Minnesota or elsewhere. Recently, a rumor surfaced about Tom Thibodeau and company targeting Derrick Rose this summer after his failed stint with the New York Knicks. Ironically enough, the Knicks seem interested in Rubio who they’d had to trade for without Rose who’ll be a free agent in July.

Thibodeau seems intent on bringing in some of the players that he had so much success with during his time as head coach of the Chicago Bulls. Rose was an MVP in Chicago under Thibodeau, and he may think the veteran can resurrect his career in Minnesota playing alongside the likes of Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins.

It seems as though Rubio’s future will likely be elsewhere as the Timberwolves continue to shop him while he remains loyal to the team. Anything can happen in Minnesota, but Rubio’s days with the squad might be over if Thibodeau wants Rose and feels the team can succeed with the Spanish point guard running the show.
