Giants QB Eli Manning claims he’ll be ‘playing next season’ in the NFL

The New York Giants are going through a drastic transitional period. The team has decided to change quarterbacks with two-time Super Bowl champion Eli Manning now sporting an earpiece on the sidelines rather than being under center.

Manning is  now stuck watching from the bench with Geno Smith the team’s starting quarterback moving forward. In addition, there’s been speculation that the veteran may hang up his cleats after the season. Apparently, Manning has no intentions to retire after this season as he said after Sunday’s game, via Jordan Raanan of ESPN.

Unclear Future

“I plan on playing next season,” Manning said twice Sunday after the Giants’ 24-17 loss to the Oakland Raiders.

Manning will accept the backup role behind Smith and evaluate what to do after the 2017 campaign. His time in New York may be over if he wants to continue his playing career in the NFL, via Raanan.

“No, there is no point,” Manning said. “I can’t control what is going to happen. Just finish out this season in whatever capacity they need me to do and go from there.”

It’ll be interesting to see how it all pans out in New York. The Giants brass have received a lot of backlash for benching the longtime face of the franchise. Head coach Ben McAdoo is also on shaky ground with reports that he could be fired as soon as Monday. That may also change where the team goes from here on out regarding Manning’s future with the team.
