Reaffirming Chip Kelly’s Alleged Sanity Makes Him Seem Insane

We all know Eagles coach Chip Kelly is a man with a plan. A big plan. A bold plan. A plan that so far seems to be ridding Philadelphia of all their superstar players and replacing them with former Oregon Ducks.

Oh, and signing Tim Tebow! You remember the former Heisman winner-turned-ESPN-hairdo who hasn’t been on a regular season roster since 2012. Well he’s back now, and his presence is really going to test the boundaries of that brotherly love Philadelphia is supposedly known for.

To say that Kelly’s moves this offseason have left a great many of us scratching our heads is an understatement. Outside Philly it’s actually a pretty entertaining show Kelly’s putting on, mostly because we don’t give a shit how it turns out.

If Kelly’s experiment in dismantlement and alienation actually works, it’ll be a fun surprise and a story that will dominate the entire 2015 season. If it fails miserably, it’ll be even more fun, but totally expected story that will dominate the entire 2015 season.

Your classic win-win situation.

For Eagles fans, however, this is personal. While it’s difficult to find people buying what Kelly is selling nationally, it’s damn near impossible to find in Philadelphia. On Monday CSN Northwest spoke to Kelly’s successor at Oregon, Mark Helfrich, and they got right to the point.

On the scene in Eugene following a Ducks scrimmage, reporter Brianna Amaranthus first asked Helfrich about the signing of Tebow. His reaction didn’t read especially positive, but he astutely noted that it would be fun for the media.

Then Amaranthus just went for it, asking Helfrich to comment on Eagles fans that think Kelly is maybe just a little bit out of his gourd. Though he coupled it with a good natured chuckle, Helfrich said, “I think it’s unfortunate I’ve had to answer this question more than once: Chip Kelly is not insane. He’s got a plan”

Like I already said, we all know Kelly has a plan—a big, bold, insane plan.

Seriously, how many sane people do you know that routinely require a fierce defense of their sanity? The number you’re clearly searching for right now is zero. The more Kelly or his allies address or defend his sanity, the more insane he looks.

Lol Eagles fans.
