Report: Texas A&M to fire Kevin Sumlin

Texas A&M’s football team is preparing for its regular season finale on Saturday. But according to reports, coach Kevin Sumlin is already a lame duck.

According to Brent Zwerneman of the Houston Chronicle, the regular season finale against LSU will be Sumlin’s last game on the sidelines.

Texas A&M is 7-4 and has a 4-3 record in conference play. Sumlin is in his sixth year as the Aggies’ head coach.

He heads into Saturday’s game with a 51-25 mark at A&M, with a 25-22 record in SEC play. His teams have qualified for a bowl in each of his first five seasons and are bowl eligible again this year.

Working against Sumlin is that the Aggies have not gotten better in his tenure, and he started the season already on the hot seat. In fact, they’ve gotten worse. Texas A&M was 11-2 in his first year at the school.

After a 9-4 record in Year 2, Years 3-5 all ended with 8-5 records. Heading into 2017’s regular season finale, the Aggies are 7-4.
