Texans Lose Schaub, Game While Titans Suffer Another Loss Under Fitzpatrick

In a season that has not met expectations, it seems to get worse by the week for the Houston Texans (2-4). On Sunday, they suffered a fourth straight loss. This one came against the St. Louis Rams (3-3), 38-13.

The Texans also saw starting quarterback Matt Schaub go down in the third quarter with an ankle/leg injury. He’ll undergo tests on Monday. Upon leaving the field, the slumping player was greeted by cheers from some Texans fans.

Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson said of the reaction via ESPN.com, “You don’t cheer about nobody being injured — I don’t care who it is. Guys lay their bodies on the line out there on that field. Some guys get injuries, and it affects them their whole lives. To cheer about something like that, it just shows they have no class.”

But Schaub’s exit wasn’t the only factor affecting the team’s loss. It was a team-day for errors and this included seven penalties for 95 yards, two fumbles lost, two interceptions (one pick-6 by a rookie) by backup quarterback T.J. Yates (98 passing yards) and 186 yards passing by Schaub with zero picks–for a change.

From Yates’ pick-6, the Texans are now the first team in league history to have a pick-six interception in five straight games, according to Elias Sports Bureau.

The one bright spot on Sunday may have been running back Arian Foster. He had 20 carries for 141 yards along with four receptions for 57 yards.

Last week Texans coach Gary Kubiak said the team had reached rock bottom but its woes continued as they now sit in the third spot in the AFC South. The team can only go up but what will spur a turnaround?

After Sunday’s loss, former NFL quarterback and Houston native Vince Young tweeted he was willing to help out. He wrote, “Let them know VY is in shape and ready to go! I always loved my birth place and everyone who lives in it IM READY.”

Young had been with the Green Bay Packers during training camp this season but he was cut by them. But is he really NFL ready? He’s been absent from league game since the 2011 season. Hard to believe he was once the NFL Rookie of the Year.

Could he really be worse than Yates?

This week the Texans will play the Kansas City Chiefs (6-0). Good luck with that one. They sit two games behind the division-leading Indianapolis Colts (4-2) and are 40/1 to win this year’s Super Bowl.

Titans lose to the Seahawks

The Tennessee Titans (3-3) suffered their second consecutive loss and Week 6’s came against the Seattle Seahawks (5-1). It is also the second loss under backup quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. He took over the starting role as quarterback Jake Locker is out with hip and knee injuries incurred from the Sept. 29 game against the New York Jets (3-3).

On Sunday, Fitzpatrick went 17 of 29 passes, 171 yards and two picks. In his two games as a starter, he has a 54 percent pass completion, a 53.2 passer rating, one touchdown, four picks and six sacks.

Oh yeah, he’s also had three fumbles but he hasn’t lost any of them.

Fitzpatrick said of the game via ESPN, “We couldn’t get into a rhythm on offense and a lot of that is me. I didn’t play well today. Really for the last two weeks I’ve played poorly and we haven’t won games. … I feel like momentum has kind of ground to a halt with the last two games and the way that we played on offense. The defense is still playing great and making plays out there. I’m not doing enough right now to consistently move the ball for the offense.”

For now, the team may be sticking with Fitzpatrick for one more game as Locker could be out until Nov. 3 after the team’s bye week. This week they will play the San Francisco 49ers (4-2) and could see another loss (-4, 39 o/u).
