After playing in only one game last season due to off-the-field issues, veteran running back Adrian Peterson plans on making an impression in his return to the Minnesota Vikings next season. Peterson is still widely regarded as one of the best backs in the game and plans to prove that fact during the 2015 NFL season.

Peterson has set his sights on rushing for 2,500 yards next season, according to the Vikings Twitter account:

The 30-year-old veteran has gone through some serious ups and downs over the last few years. Peterson tore his ACL back in 2011 convincing many that he may finally be done as one of the league’s elite rushers, but then bounced back with a vengeance the following year.

In 2012, Peterson racked up 2,314 yards from scrimmage while scoring 13 total touchdowns for the Vikings and ultimately earning NFL MVP honors. Peterson followed up his breakout year by 1,437 yards from scrimmage and 11 touchdowns.

Last season, Peterson in only one game rushing for 75 yards in a win over the St. Louis Rams. The veteran’s off-the-field problems came to the forefront after the game against the Rams resulting in the back missing the rest of the season.

Despite seemingly endless trade rumors, Peterson will play for the Vikings next season and may have a decent chance of accomplishing his goal of 2,500 yards. The Vikings were able to bring in a top-tier wideout in Mike Wallace and appear confident in Teddy Bridgewater as their starter moving forward.

Although the Green Bay Packers are still the team to beat in the NFC North, Minnesota may surprise some people with a healthy Peterson leading the way next season.
